Join The Luminous Pets in supporting Doggie Dash, a fundraiser for Oregon Humane Society!
You know how much we love animals, so much that we thought it was a great idea to build a small business out of it. The Oregon Humane Society is special to us. Many, many years ago we adopted Kahlua (golden retriever / chow) from there. She struggled with adjusting to a shelter life, but OHS provided her a quiet kennel and took inconsideration her stress levels. They took all the extra steps to make sure our meet with her was positive, and even took the time to introduce her to Ronan. We all hit it off with her so well, that we new she needed a place in our family.
Flash forward, to the crazy time that I convinced Isiah, after about 3 months, that getting a cat was a great idea. Some early mornings, I admit, among her screaming she is hungry and doing zoomies on my face, I question if it was the right choice, Either way, we love her. Long story short, Ember did not spend long in the shelter, she was transported in, we saw her at OHS, and boom she was adopted. .
This past year so much has changed, yet our love of pets is constant. Even with everything that has happened, OHS is still committed to their mission and helping pets and people in need.
Did you know that OHS never puts time limits on how long pets remain at their shelter? What really touches my heart is when a pet arrives at OHS who may be shy or frightened, OHS has a special program to help teach them to trust people and that love is good. Big wins are the simple things like when they first take a treat from your hand or their first wag of their tail, but the really big win is the loving home they will be ready for when adopted.
OHS realized early during the pandemic that pet owners needed help and OHS has stepped up to support pet owners around the state. Close to 100,000 pounds of pet food was delivered to shelters and food pantries around the state, and given directly to owners at free pet food banks at OHS.
I hope your pets were a comfort to you through this very challenging past year.
And I'm hoping you'll join me in helping pets from all walks of life. Please donate.
Thank you so much! - Josie. Isiah, Ronan, Kahlua and Ember
