Join Me in Helping Pets!

Kristi LaHaye

I’m taking part in the Oregon Humane Society’s (OHS) Doggie Dash on May 13, and I need your help. OHS rescues pets that are neglected and abused, sometimes with serious medical issues. They heal them and then find them homes with loving families. But they need our help to do this. They feed and care for more than 11,000 animals each year without any tax dollars.

I am a member of the OHS Second Chance Intake and the Highway to Home Team. We participate in the intake of animals that involves gently unloading the crates of dogs, pups, cats and kittens from our OHS transport. Many animals come to us from CA. We then usher the precious critters to the shelter, giving them high-quality treats, of course water, and vet tech exam & vaccinations, and meds. I participate in canine intake. Once we have the dogs in the shelter, they have their photo taken, which is why so many of the online photos portray scared animals, because they are! They have traveled a long time in their crates onboard the OHS truck. Animals have a strong GPS so they know they are not in CA anymore! We get them tucked in to bed, feed and water them again, then clean their kennels before we call it a night, often after midnight. We adore our work, find pure joy knowing we are saving so many animals, and knowing they are going to get their FUREVER homes. I can't think of a better place to volunteer than OHS. I also dog walk our shelter pets on a team. The volunteers are primarily responsible for getting the animals on their outings. OHS also has other programs to get the shelter animals out and about, such as running teams and play groups.

Please, donate to the animals on my behalf. Just click on a Donate button on this page, and think of your own pet!

Thanks so much!
