Doggie Dash is on, and I am dashing to save lives!
Many of you know that I love animals so much, I've made a career of it here at Oregon Humane Society.
Each year, thousands of pets find loving homes through OHS. Some stay just a few days, while others are with us for months.
Winky came to OHS this summer from Klamath Falls, OR though our Second Chance Program! The shelter in Klamath Falls asked for our help after Winky came in with 17 other dogs who had been living on a farm. Unfortunately, none of the dogs were in great shape but Winky was probably in the worst shape of all. She was severely malnourished, had a broken paw, and had suffered a serious injury to her right eye.
Thankfully, OHS was able to transfer Winky across the state from Klamath Falls to our Portland shelter, where Winky received lifesaving medical care and plenty of treats. Although we were not able to save her injured eye, we could tell immediately after surgery that she was much happier with it gone. Suddenly, this shy little wallflower became the playful, loving puppy she was always meant to be—trying to kiss and play with everyone who walked by her kennel! Winky quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite for her scrappy and playful demeaner and, of course, her forever “wink”.
On August 13, 2022, Winky found her fur-ever home when was adopted by… ME! In fact, she is snoozing under my desk atop a pile of blankets and toys as I write this.
Today, I write to you not only as an OHS staff member but as a grateful adopter when I ask you to join me in creating a more humane society for pets like Winky.
We truly could not do all of the wild things we do to care for precious animals if it weren’t for amazing friends like you. Your gifts positively impact (and save) the lives of real pets all over Oregon and beyond and for that, we could not be more grateful!
I hope you'll join me in helping pets from all walks of life. Please donate now!
