My heart belonged to Lambeau the moment I held him in my arms. He wasn’t the dog I went to adopt, but the one I was destined to. We spoke our own language.
Lambeau instantly completed our family. He was timid, but trusted us wholeheartedly by following his brother Hawk's confident lead. He was stoic, but gifted us with his silly antics and sweet cuddles every day. He was anxious, but always there for me. Above all, he was our best friend.
For the past six years, he worked by my side at Oregon Humane Society, fundraising to help fellow shelter pets find loving homes and the lives they deserve.
A lifetime of Lambeau would never have been enough. But, on Feb. 21, Jamie and I held him in our arms one last time, wrapped in his favorite sherpa blanket. After a visit to OHS' new Community Veterinary Hospital, we discovered too late that our beloved boy was quietly battling metastatic cancer in his spleen.
While our hearts hurt without him, we find comfort in the love that surrounded Lambeau at OHS — from the compassionate medical team who provided the best care for him (and us) on one of the worst days of our lives, to the amazing staff and volunteers who have made it their mission to help shelter pets in need (and played a big role in giving Lambeau the life he deserved).
That's why we're fundraising for Oregon Humane Society in Lambeau's honor. Please donate to our Doggie Dash page, so more pets and people can fall head-over-paws in love.
