Doggie Dash is back, and I'm excited to be raising funds to care for animals in need.
Yes, I know, this is sort of my job. But I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't believe in the impact the Oregon Humane Society makes on the lives of vulnerable pets in our community.
Each year, thousands of pets find loving homes through OHS. Some stay just a few days, while others are there for months.
My dogs Harvey and Autumn are perfect examples of OHS in action.
Harvey was brought to OHS as a rescue from Texas. A hurricane (his namesake) had ravaged his county, and OHS assisted local shelters to make space for the pets that had gotten lost during the natural disaster. This provided families the opportunity to be reunited with their pets in an already difficult time, and brought me my best friend all the way from TX!
Autumn was an owner surrender. You wouldn't believe it when you meet her - she is the most loving giant Great Pyrenees mix that wants nothing more than your pets. Constantly. Forever. She was under a year old when she came to OHS, extremely pregnant, straight out of a backyard breeding situation. The breeder had fallen ill and surrendered several of his dogs. I later found out Autumn, my 110 lb. snuggle pup, had been living with14 other large breed dogs in a double-wide trailer. OHS placed her in foster care where she had her puppies in the comfort of a home with dedicated volunteers, and once she and her puppies were ready, they all went on to loving homes.
We couldn't imagine our lives without these two wonderful dogs, or their two cat brothers who are also OHS alumni!
Since I don't have the physical space in my house to rescue any more myself, please join me and donate now to support all the pets we can't rescue until we get a farm someday...
