Your Impact

For more than 150 years, Oregon Humane has been a place where compassion takes action. Your contribution fuels every facet of our work, including adoptions, spay/neuter, medical care, humane law enforcement, and specialized training for animals (and humans!) needing a little help.

The needs in the community are growing. The rising cost of living coupled with the loss of government funding is impacting everyone—individuals and organizations. People are struggling to afford pet food, supplies, and veterinary care, and as a result more pets are being surrendered to shelters than ever before. While Oregon Humane hasn’t seen a dramatic uptick in the number of owner-surrenders, we already receive 200-300 requests per week from families looking to rehome their pet—far more than we are capable of assisting. The situation in smaller, more rural communities where many of our partner shelters are located is dire. They are not only being asked to intake more animals than ever before, some are also having to manage the increased intakes while navigating cuts to their funding. Oregon Humane has a long history of serving as a partner to smaller agencies with fewer resources, so what affects our partners also impacts us.
