For those of you who know me, you know that animals are one of the most important elements of my life. A series of unfortunate events lead me to stumble into my first animal welfare job over 13 years ago and today I can say that I am 100% in my dream job.
The Oregon Humane Society does amazing work for animals in Oregon and beyond. We of course rescue and find homes for 10,000+ animals each year, but we also provide subsidized veterinary care to our underserved community, assist with natural disasters, rescue animals from abuse and neglect and provide a safe and nurturing space for animals to recover from trauma and other behavioral health problems.
This year I am fundraising in honor of all of the pets that I have rescued and who have enriched my life beyond measure:
Badge: My first and bestest girl, saved from a county kill shelter the day before her euthanasia date.
Beard: My scrappy little San Francisco street cat who has become my one true son and best friend in the world.
Seymour: My sweet, sensitive and extremely naughty boy from San Francisco, who had arrived with severe facial injuries, the result of human abuse.
Leland: My short little Napoleon, who somehow, at 4 weeks old, managed to survive on the mean streets of SF. The sweetest little boy.
Brutus: The boy who showed up at my house during an ice storm with half a tail and a severe infection. Glad you stuck around, buddy.
Puffy: The girl who decided what was Brutus' was also hers. She moved in without permission and we are glad she did.
Gertie: Our most recent rescue. A professional con-woman whose docile demeanor and short stature were the result of a very rare condition. She took our money and our hearts, and all we have to show for it are kitten scratches and stinky kisses.
Thank you to everyone for showing up and supporting OHS!
