Many of you know that we adopted Walter from the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) in 2017. He is such a delightful, lovable, cuddley, sweet, old man, and we are so LUCKY that OHS was able to care for him and bring him into our lives.
Fast forward a few years, and I am NOW working at OHS! AND I’m participating in OHS' Doggie Dash to help animals in need. I've included a bunch of super nerdy (and pretty impressive!) information on OHS' programs below (for those of you who like to read the numbers).
I am wondering if you will join me (and Walter!) in supporting the animals. Walter and I have a BIG goal--please join us in making a difference by contributing to our fundraising efforts. Every dollar we raise will help support:
- Daily care for shelter animals while they await their new homes. All animals adopted through OHS receive medical treatment including spay/neuter services, vaccinations, microchips, and a health evaluation. In 2024, we found homes for 11,911 animals.
- Subsidized veterinary care for pet owners in need so that they don’t have to deny their animal treatment due to cost. OHS’ Community Veterinary Hospital (CVH) is the first clinic in Oregon dedicated to offering accessible, high-quality veterinary care to low-income clients and their pets. In 2024, over 11,500 patient visits at OHS received subsidized care, for a total of more than $1,335,000 in subsidies.
- Specialized training for animals in OHS’ Behavior Modification Program. OHS’ Behavior Rescue Center provides a calm, quiet space for trainers to work with animals who may need extra time building their social skills. In 2024, OHS had 103 cats and 90 dogs adopted through our Behavior Modification Program.
- Investigations from OHS Humane Law Enforcement into suspected cases of cruelty and neglect.
- Relocation of animals to OHS from shelters in areas impacted by natural disasters, freeing up kennel space for displaced pets. In response to the Los Angeles wildfires, we were able to bring 148 animals from the affected areas to OHS earlier this year.
- Our humane education program which teaches empathy, responsibility, and compassion to thousands of children annually, creating more compassionate members of society. We reached 17,127 young people in the past year through a variety of engagement opportunities, including 317 school visits.
Walter and I are fundraising to support all of the critical programs and services that Oregon Humane Society provides. Please make a gift today to help us reach our goal!
