As some of you may know, I started a job at the Oregon Humane Society in February of this year. I knew a little about OHS when I started, but nothing could have prepared me for what I have learned in the last 3 months.

Oregon Humane Society is the single-most successful animal shelter in the country. By bringing in animals through owner surrenders, animal transfers from other shelters in Oregon and beyond, emergency intake during natural disasters, and animal seizures in law enforcement cases, OHS adopts out more than 10,000 animals per year.

The reach of OHS is far beyond just the number of animals adopted-- On a daily basis I speak to the individuals that we are helping. People facing houselessness or lack of pet-friendly housing, DV survivors trying to secure safety for themselves and their pets, the owner that got the large breed dog they always wanted and then realized that their lifestyle doesn't match the needs of the animal, to the emaciated and worm-riddled puppies that arrive after a seizure from a backyard breeder. I look in the eyes of these people and these animals, and I see the true impact of our work.

OHS is a 501(c)3 that receives most of their funding from private donors. One of our public fundraising events is Doggie Dash, which is happening on May 11th. I’m raising money to support Oregon Humane Society and their mission, which has become my work & my passion.
 
I believe that all animals deserve a safe home. I believe that all animals deserve to go to sleep with a full belly.
