I always thought that the legendary Bay to Breakers foot race in San Francisco was the most fun anyone could have standing up.
But that was before I discovered Doggie Dash, the annual Bow-Wow Bonanza hosted by the Oregon Humane Society at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park, along the beautiful Willamette River. You have to imagine, oh, I don't know, 4000 dogs?--big dogs, small dogs, brown dogs, black dogs, white dogs and every possible combination--all getting along as they walk as a group along both sides of the river. No temper tantrums, no nasty exchanges--why can't humans behave like that? Really, I think we should send Doggie Dash videos to the State Department and maybe the United Nations so those diplomats could take lessons.
Doggie Dash has all kinds of fun features, such as the doggie-human lookalike contest. Many dogs sport creative costumes. Have you ever seen a Mastiff in a tutu? It's just not possible to go to Doggie Dash without stretching your smile muscles.
Now I am supposed to get serious and tell you that I’m participating in Doggie Dash to help animals in need.
Please help me make a difference in my community by contributing to my fundraising efforts. Every dollar I raise will help support:
- Daily care for shelter animals while they await their new homes. - Subsidized veterinary care for pet owners in need so that they don’t have to deny their animal treatment due to cost. - Specialized training for animals in OHS’ Behavior Modification Program. - Investigations from OHS Humane Law Enforcement into suspected cases of cruelty and neglect. - Relocation of animals to OHS from shelters in areas impacted by natural disasters, freeing up kennel space for displaced pets.
OHS has been an important part of my life since we moved to Oregon 10 years ago. Jackson, noble predecessor to Charley-the-chocolate Lab (current rescue), is even buried at OHS, because that just felt like the right place to lay him to rest. I’m fundraising to support all of the critical programs and services that Oregon Humane Society provides. Please make a gift today to help me reach my goal.
