By participating in Doggie Dash, you can enable us to go above and beyond in our journey to rescue pets like Winky Jo.
Winky Jo came to OHS all the way from Southern Oregon though our Second Chance Program. The shelter in Klamath Falls asked for our help after Winky was brought in with 16 other dogs, who had all been struggling to survive on a small, under-resourced farm. Unfortunately, none of the dogs were in great shape but Winky Jo was probably in the worst shape of all. She was severely malnourished, had a broken paw, and had suffered a serious injury to her right eye.
Thankfully, OHS was able to bring Winky Jo six hours north to our Portland shelter, where she received lifesaving medical care… and plenty of treats. Because of amazing donors like you, we were able to perform an emergency enucleation on Winky Jo, immediately easing her suffering. After her surgery, she transformed in the playful, loving puppy she was always meant to be—trying to smooch and play with everyone who walked by her kennel. Winky quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite due to her scrappy and playful demeaner and, of course, her iconic “wink”.
Just a couple weeks later, Winky found her fur-ever home when was adopted by… ME! In fact, she is snoozing under my desk atop a throne of blankets and toys as I write this very email.
Today, I write to you not only as an OHS staff member but as a grateful adopter when I say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR HELPING PETS LIKE WINKY JO! We truly could not do all of the wild things we do to care for precious animals like Winky if it weren’t for amazing friends like you. Your gifts positively impact (and save) the lives of real pets all over Oregon and beyond and for that, we could not be more grateful!
